Amaethon
Culture revered in: Welsh
Represents: Agriculture
Related deities: Don, Gwydion
Name meaning: The modern
Welsh word for a farmer, amaethwr, is after him. The plough, amaeth, is also named after him.
Unusually, Amaethon has no parallel among
the Irish or English deities. He was a great plowman and farmer, the son of Don, and fought deside his brother Gwydion in
the Battle of the Trees. He caused the battle by stealing a dog, a lapwing, and a roebuck from Arawn. The battle is so named
because Gwydion transformed trees into warriors and this won him the battle.
